Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Characters I'd Name My Children After

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday is Top Ten Characters I'd Name My Children After. There are two different ways to take this--characters I admire and respect and have good qualities that I hope my future children will have AND characters that have awesome names. So I'm doing some of both.

1. Jane from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane is my favorite character from classical literature. She's brave and unrelenting and just awesome.

2. Alice from Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's series which includes such books as Alice the BraveAlice in Charge and Intensely Alice. I've grown up with Alice (Granted much more quickly. We started out in sixth or seventh grade at the same time. She's still in high school) and I love her. She's such a real character and feels like a really good friend. I attended my first bookish event last April and went to listen to Naylor speak at my local library. I cried.

3. Hermione from Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Let's all admit it. Harry Potter is awesome. Hermione is super smart, loyal and brave. I love her.

4. Mia from The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. As you can probably tell, I enjoy series. I think you can really get to know a character this way, and I feel that way about Mia. And this is one of the only series that I felt ended well. After a disappointing ending to both Harry Potter and Twilight, I was thrilled with Princess Diaries X.

5. Audrey from Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. I want Audrey to be my best friend. She's kick-ass.

6. Bronwyn from I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan. I think that this is awesome name. It's old-fashion and different and sounds completely awful with my last name. A real winner, this one.

7. Sloane Crosley--the author of I Was Told There'd Be Cake and How Did You Get This Number. I could go on and on about Sloane's books of essays. They're hilarious, witty and well-written. My favorite part? Sloane writes an entire section about her name in I Was Told There'd Be Cake. Check it out.

8. Meg from Little Women (Oxford World's Classics) by Louisa May Alcott. Meg was always by favorite in Little Women. As much as I wanted to be Jo, I just wasn't. Beth was too kind. Amy, too stuck-up. Meg was solid and steadfast (for the most part.) I liked her.

And now for something totally different...boy names!

9. Sherlock from The Hound of the Baskervilles: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Dead serious. I would totally name my child Sherlock. Sadly, Husband doesn't think it's the best idea. But in a perfect world, my son would be name Sherlock.

10. Henry from A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. Frederic Henry is the main character in Hemingway's novel about war and love and nothingness. It's one of the few books I has required to read while completing my degree that I really enjoyed. And Henry's actually on our list of real names for future children.

Ha. This is the most random list I think I've ever made. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
